Way back in 2005 I was asked to talk at Montreal's International Game Summit on the topic of pixel art. I couldn't say no. I would regret it for the rest of my life if I missed an opportunity like this.
I prepared for two full months. Doing extra web surfing at work, writing it all up on the commuter train everyday. It's something I'm very proud of. I ended up talking about pixels both in and out of video games for 45 min to a crowd of about 90 to 100 people, with 15 min of questions after. It was awesome. I later found out that I was voted in to the top 10 speakers of that year.
This.. is the highlight of my career. This PDF (press the download button) is pretty much exactly word for word what I said, and showed, with my slide show during the conference.
It needs to be updated though. Be warned, there's spelling and grammar errors all over the place, and the end bio need s updating as well since I'm no longer at Gameloft. At least I have it posted up now ^_^
Even since 2005 it seems there has been a much bigger craving for pixels. The FC Twin is selling really well. Everyone over the age of 20 is getting new pins in their NES. Xbox Live Arcade and Wii's Classic Console are quite successful. How nice it would be if pixel art received a home console resurrection soon with original titles.
That would be nice indeed. I love pixels so much, it was a blast to do this speech. FC Twin eh? I've actually never heard of that. I think I'd rather try and re tune my NES though. Too many memories in that system.
But I totally agree. The desire for more pixel games is there. I'm not sure how big it will get but it's nice to see that it isn't dead.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

On another note, I want a pixel cookie.
